Neutral Ground: The Art of Dressing in Neutrals #styleinspiration

In our last post we pointed how much of a statement you can make with subtlety — namely, neutrals! Now that you’ve chosen your colour scheme, lets get ready to rock it from head-to-toe.

Layering is key to achieving this look. Make sure when you layer that you mix heavy and light fabrics. Try a chunky knit with a long chiffon or silky shirt underneath and skinny jeans, all in one colour family, but varying textures and tones. Be sure you pay close attention to your shades. So for example, if you choose a grey colour, make sure they’re all warm or all cool in tone as you layer. Its all about mixing and matching, getting creative but keeping it simple and classic.

Kim Kardashian loves this look and wears it from season to season. She always looks classy when she dons this tone-on-tone trend, and shows us how to keep it simple. For example, in this first look, she starts with a long-sleeved form fitting dress, next layers on a duster coat in the same colour over it. Two easy steps, and she’s achieved the style, and looks flawless! We’ve also included some other examples from this style star to give you some more ideas (above)!

The nice thing about this trend is that you don’t have to splurge. You probably already have a lot of neutrals in your wardrobe, so maybe it just means coming in and finding that perfect investment piece to build you looks around. Maybe it’s a new blazer, a fur coat you’ve been eyeing, or an Eileen Fisher piece that can make casual dressing look polished (top).
